While doing a bit of bramble clearing around one of the bridges along the canal, Tim tripped on a protusion in the canal basin. On investigation, wood planks were uncovered which eventually proved to be an old boat buried in the mud. Sadly, it proved not to be a full tub-boat with wheels but a flat bottomed work boat used by the canal staff for clearing vegetation etc. The base and one level of the side boards are still in place. Gerald Fry had discovered this boat when doing the original canal clearing in the 1960s but it had lain forgotten since then. Sadly, to preserve what’s left we will have to cover it over again.
